After dedicating over three weeks to this IDResolve review, it became clear – IDResolve can’t match our top identity protection pick, Aura.

Aura is the best identity protection service. It provides comprehensive monitoring, helping you protect everything from your 401(k) to your home’s title – IDResolve doesn’t monitor anything!

Aura also includes the best theft insurance coverage available (up to $5 million), while IDResolve does not include insurance at all.

Use our discount code to lock in off Aura for life and enjoy peace of mind from a service that actually protects – instead of just cleaning up after the fact (like IDResolve does).

You Should Get Aura If…
You Should Get ID Resolve If…
  • You want to protect your assets with comprehensive monitoring. Aura’s award-winning monitoring and alerts cover everything from your child’s SSN to your car’s title.
  • You want the best theft insurance coverage. With up to $5 million in coverage, Aura ensures you won’t pay out of pocket for theft-related damages.
  • You want to protect your entire family online. With generous family plans and a full suite of digital security tools (like a VPN and parental controls), Aura ensures you can.
  • You want a resolution-only service that doesn’t help you avoid preventable identity crimes.
  • You don’t have a family to protect. IDResolve does not cover children.
  • You don’t care about insurance. IDResolve’s plans don’t include any insurance to cover theft-related expenses.

Let me explain.

ID Resolve isn’t a full identity protection service, it’s a resolution-only service. That means you only use it after you’re a victim of identity theft, not before

That’s a problem.

You know that old saying – an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure? I’m not saying that any service can prevent a theft attempt, but a comprehensive identity protection service, like Aura, can minimize damages

With ID Resolve, you have to wait until the damage is done to try and rectify the situation.

Even if you’re not worried about preventative protection, ID Resolve is littered with other issues.

If you want to learn more about ID Resolve (and why I think Aura is so much better), read on. I’ll explain exactly how I came to my conclusions.

ID Resolve Review: Is It Worth Getting?

No, ID Resolve is not worth getting.

Think of it this way – ID Resolve is like having fire sprinklers, but no smoke alarms. If your home starts to burn, the sprinklers will go off after the room reaches fire-induced temperatures, meaning damage is already being done. But, if you’d had a smoke alarm in place, you might have been able to stop the flames from catching in the first place.

ID Resolve will help you fix your identity after it’s compromised, but it can’t warn you of fraud in advance because it doesn’t offer monitoring services. It doesn’t scan the dark web or watch your credit report. Instead, after something goes wrong, you can call them for help.

ID Resolve’s cost also doesn’t make sense. They charge full just as much as some of the ID protection services that include monitoring and insurance coverage.

For monitoring with threat resolution, you need a comprehensive identity protection service, like Aura.

Aura can help you spot signs of fraud before serious damage is done, and if damage still occurs, you’ll still have access to a top-notch team of resolution experts.

On top of that, Aura costs LESS. With our discount code, you can get Aura, meaning you get more protection for less money than ID Resolve.

Monitoring & Alerts: 0/10

ID Resolve isn’t a monitoring service.

It’s not watching for fraudulent activity in any way, shape, or form. It doesn’t run a dark web scan for your personal information, keep an eye on your credit report, or monitor public records for signs of title theft.

Monitoring the internet for your information allows you to react to fraud fast. And, the faster you react, the less damage a criminal can create.

If you don’t monitor for threats, you won’t know your information is compromised until something major happens – like when you start receiving calls from debt collection companies

Even if a company is incredible at resolving threats, I don’t want to let things get that far. I want a protection company to help me monitor my information so that I can take action before things get bad.

If you feel the same way, you want a company like Aura

Aura offers comprehensive monitoring services, including dark web, home and auto title, and criminal records monitoring. You’ll know if your (or your family’s) personal information is compromised right away.

Then, you can take small actions, like changing your password or issuing a credit freeze. Taking these little steps early on can prevent damage to your credit or the theft of your bigger assets, like your retirement account.

With ID Resolve, you might not know your credit is ruined until you apply for financing. You might not realize your retirement account is depleted until you receive your monthly statement. And, you might not know a criminal took another mortgage on your house until you try to sell it.

ID Resolve might be able to help you fix it, but the damage is already done. Personally, I’d rather have someone watching all the time. That way, I can catch thieves right away.

Threat resolution is all ID Resolve does, so you’d hope they would excel at it. And, maybe they do. I have a few doubts, though.

I’ll go over their threat resolution services in four parts:

  • Customer service
  • Concierge identity restoration
  • Credit restoration
  • Lost wallet protection

By the time I’m through, you’ll have a full understanding of what ID Resolve offers in this area (and why I’m a little suspicious of their claims).

Customer Service

ID Resolve offers a general customer service phone line for customer inquiries before and after enrollment. This isn’t the line you’d call if you believe you were a victim of identity theft, but if you have questions about your bill, what the service offers, or need to cancel, this is the line for you.

As part of my testing, I called on a Wednesday at 10 a.m. EST. This was well within their customer service hours (Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST), and they answered within one minute.

The representative I spoke to was clearly in the U.S. and was able to answer all of my questions with ease.

The second time I called, it was a Monday at 6 p.m. EST, and they were clearly busier. It took over ten minutes for me to reach a representative. That’s not so great, but they did offer to call me back rather than keep me on hold, which I appreciated.

Again, once I reached a live human, they were very helpful. I have no doubt that the customer service team with ID Resolve is well-trained and ready to assist with any of your service questions.

Concierge Identity Restoration

Let’s say the worst happens, and you realize a thief is using your identity. If you have ID Resolve, you’ll call their theft hotline, and they’ll offer the following:

  • Dispute Resolution: Their specialists promise to help you rectify fraudulent charges with your bank or other merchants. They’ll provide regular status reports for as long as the dispute lasts.
  • Notify Legal Authorities: They’ll help you report fraudulent activity to the local police.
  • Medical Identity Theft Assistance: They’ll work with hospital and doctor’s billing offices to dispute charges if someone uses your name to receive care.

All of this is great, as far as identity restoration goes, but ID Resolve makes big promises, and I’m not sure they can deliver.

In the “Real Stories” section of their site, they claim that identity theft victims they’ve helped didn’t have to waste any time or spend any money to fix their identity issues. I’ll dig into this further when we talk about their (lack of) insurance coverage, but I think the way they present these stories are misleading.

A resolution team can handle most of the heavy lifting, but there will always be some things you’ll have to take care of yourself.

If you’re an identity theft victim, you’ll have to spend some time and money repairing your good name, even with an experienced team helping you through the process. Your bank, for example, may need to talk to you – not a resolution specialist. The same goes for government identification offices.

Did ID Resolve’s team help these real-life theft victims?

Probably.

However, could their services be so thorough that the victim didn’t lose any money or time to the problem?

Probably not.

I think it’s important to understand that before you decide to sign up for a recovery service like ID Resolve rather than a fully comprehensive protection program.

Credit Restoration

ID Resolve also offers a suite of credit restoration services that they offer in tandem with identity restoration services. These services include:

  • Credit dispute services
  • Credit freezes
  • Credit bureau fraud alerts
  • Emergency cash advances

This means that their team will notify the three major credit bureaus if you notice fraudulent activity. They’ll initiate and follow up on any disputes you have and put a freeze on your credit reports.

The issue, of course, is that they’re not going to monitor your credit reports for fraud in advance of the problem.

In other words, you won’t know your credit has been affected until something happens – like getting turned down for a loan – unless you’re watching it yourself.

Comprehensive identity protection services, like Aura, watch your credit for signs of fraud. So, you’re aware of a criminal attack long before you get turned down for financing on a new car or opening a new credit card.

I will say the emergency cash advances are a nice feature.

If a thief attacks while you’re traveling, forcing you to get rid of your credit cards, ID Resolve will send you up to $500 in emergency funds as an advance. They’ll also help you arrange for plane tickets, hotel stays, and anything else you might need to get home.

Lost Wallet Protection

If you lose your wallet, ID Resolve will help you cancel your bank cards and replace your driver’s license. They’ll also help you replace a passport and Social Security card if necessary.

That, alongside the $500 emergency funds advance, creates pretty thorough protection should your wallet be stolen while traveling.

Theft Insurance Score

Theft Insurance

  • Up to $5M Theft Insurance on the family plan  ($1M per adult)

  • $1M Theft Insurance per Adult on Individual & Couple plans

  • No Insurance Coverage

One of the major flaws with ID Resolve’s services is that there is no insurance coverage.

Identity protection services almost always offer theft insurance as part of their plans. This insurance covers costs associated with the recovery process ensuring you don’t pay out of pocket for legal fees, travel expenses, lost wages, or childcare.

Unfortunately, if a thief steals your identity, the process can be costly. You may have to travel to appropriate government offices, take time off of work, and hire an attorney to help restore your name.

ID Resolve claims they save theft victims time and help restore money lost, but no identity theft specialist can save you from waiting in line at a government office, for example. You might lose a day or week of work trying to fix your identity, and ID Resolve’s team isn’t going to pay back your lost wages or cover childcare.

Only theft insurance can help with that.

Identity protection services typically offer $1 million in theft insurance coverage. Aura goes above and beyond by providing up to $5 million in coverage for you and your family. That means you really won’t lose money fighting identity theft, and you’ll have full peace of mind that your family is protected.

Family Plans: 5/10

ID Resolve offers individual and couple plans. They also offer an organization rate for businesses and large groups.

What they don’t offer is any sort of protection for children.

Unfortunately, identity thieves don’t stick to targeting adults. Many target children too. Using your child’s Social Security number, scammers can take out credit cards and loans. They can even commit tax fraud in your child’s name. When your child applies for a student loan or tries to finance a car one day, they’ll discover their credit is destroyed.

It can take years for a young adult to recover a good credit score. That’s no way to start out in the world!

That’s why the best protection services, like Aura, offer comprehensive family plans. These plans include monitoring your child’s Social Security number. Family plans from Aura also include parental controls helping you to protect your children online.

On top of that, Aura’s family plans allow you to include up to five adults – meaning you can put adult children, in-laws, or your parents onto your plan. So, if you have a family you need to protect, ID Resolve won’t cut it, but a plan like Aura’s will.

Ease of Use: 7/10

In this section, I usually talk about a service’s user interface, but with ID Resolve, there isn’t one.

You don’t have an online profile or dashboard to access. Instead, you have a phone number you can call. You also have a hard copy of their member’s guide to refer to, which they mail after you sign up.

In some ways, that makes ID Resolve very easy to use. If you notice signs of fraud, you call the number and start the resolution process right away.

Those who prefer to use a digital interface may not like the hotline-only model, though. You can’t go online and look something up yourself. Instead, you have to call the helpline for questions and tips.

Ultimately, this comes down to your preference. I like having online features even when there are no monitoring services. Things like live chat or a database of help topics can be very convenient. But, if you prefer to talk to someone over the phone, the hotline model might work great.

ID Resolve doesn’t offer additional services like VPNs or antivirus software.

They do offer a credit card opt-out service that helps ensure you don’t receive pre-approved credit card offers in the mail.

This might be a nice feature to take advantage of – there’s always a concern that a thief could use a pre-approved card in your name, but compared to other services a credit card opt-out feature isn’t much.

The best protection services, like Aura, offer full suites of internet privacy add-ons, like VPNs, antivirus software, and password managers. Aura even goes as far as to offer things like safe gaming services, which allow parents to monitor their children on popular gaming platforms. Inclusions like that make ID Resolve look less than average.

IDResolve has three price points.

Individuals pay $159 per year, couples pay $179, and organizations can receive 30 percent off the individual price for group memberships.

For individuals, that price works out to about $13 per month. $13 per month for a resolution-only service is steep.

ID Resolve isn’t a good choice for most people. It’s expensive for what it is – a resolution-only service. And most people need more than resolution-only assistance.

I prefer Aura for FULL identity protection.

Comprehensive monitoring, industry-leading theft insurance, and incredible family plan options make Aura the best pick for most people. Plus, with our discount code, it costs less than ID Resolve.
