Identity theft protection services are, on the face of things, one of the scariest services you can sign up for.

All services ask for some personal information up front, like your name (sometimes optional), email address, and sometimes phone number, but nothing truly devastating. Even credit card information can be wiped and a new card reordered to make sure nobody can use it if you make a mistake, or there’s a data breach.

But your social security number is a different matter. You only get one, and when it’s compromised it can cause severe problems that last your entire life.

So handing off that information to a company you don’t trust is a daunting task. As a result, it’s a great idea to try and verify that a service is legitimate before you give it all your personal information.

Which leads us to the question of the day: Is Aura Legit Or A Scam?

Is Aura Legitimate?

Aura Logo

Aura, on the surface, seems like a fairly new service without much of a history. That makes it natural for us to feel suspicious, especially when you look at how much it promises in its features list; it’s completely at odds with what most independent and newer identity theft protection services offer.

However, dig a little deeper, and you’ll see that Aura is actually just an offshoot of Identity Guard. It was designed to be a sort of successor program, with most of the same features and technology behind it, that the company has decided to bill as a brand new service.

Identity Guard, for those who don’t know, is one of the most trusted identity theft protection services on the market, and one of the oldest to boot. It’s been in operation for almost 20 years.

The service is extremely safe, and has had no data breaches that have been reported. This is actually common among all identity theft protection services, as the one thing they all share in common is a focus on security. It will likely make national news the first time one is breached, the same way it did when Equifax (the credit company) was breached several years ago.

Speaking from my own experience, Identity Guard is a trustworthy service with great performance in every arena. Despite what I said earlier, some services I’ve tested have left me feeling…conflicted, about whether my data is actually safe with them. They don’t exactly project a sense of competence in their main area of expertise, so it doesn’t feel safe.

I’ve never gotten that feeling from Identity Guard or by extension Aura, throughout extensive testing.

In terms of monitoring and the speed at which you get notified – in our tests Aura outshone every service except Identity Guard (which is to be expected seeing as they use the same engines).

Unlike other ID protection services which differ in their breadth of monitoring and  in their cover on different plan levels, Aura has got your back by monitoring every aspect of your data life and important assets you want protected, offering (across all plans):

Their support staff have, on average, 7 years’ experience in the industry so the assistance and advice you get (24/7/365 – we tested this too and it holds true to their claim) is 100% reliable and better than most others services.

Value for money is also top of the tops compared to all services, especially if you consider you get the 50% discount off using our affiliate link, and that price remains the same year on year from the date you sign up.

Theft insurance too, far outdoes every other service with a total of $5M for a family or, to look at it another way, $1M per adult (that’s across all plans).

So is Aura Legit or a Scam?

You can put your mind at ease: Is Aura legit or a scam? Aura is a legitimate service, and is in no way a scam. It is, perhaps, the furthest thing from it you can find, as it sits comfortably among other alternative companies that are also reputable and trustworthy like Aura out there, and outshines most of them. It’s definitely worth the investment!
